IFCA YOUTH COORDINATION
IN PRAYER WITH CA SAINTS
There is a little more than a year to go towards the World Youth Day which will be held in Madrid from the 16th to the 21st August 2011. It is high time that we start preparing ourselves!
With the eighth stage, we finished our 8 stages journey started in December.
We thank Don Romano Penna for his biblical commentary, Stella Morra for her commentary about Creed and her suggestions about II Ecumenical Vatican Council quotations.
We thank the young people who have told their experience of faith and mission:
Samer (Holy Land), Lucila (Argentina), Mira (Romania), Mary (Philippines), Wilfried (Cameroon), Monica (Italian), David (Spain), Joan (kenya).
Each stage has helped during these months, they can still be useful in the coming weeks and in the future
As a personal journey or for the group for those who leave for Rio and for those who stay at home and participate in diocesan events.

Dear friends,
It is now less than a year up to the WYD 2011!
1. As you know, the Holy Father Benedict XVI has already sent us a message for the XXVI World Youth Day 2011 "Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the faith" (cfr. Col 2,7). We propose that you read and study this Message. We are quoting the passage which encourages us to live holy lives in our everyday situations, on the foot-steps of saints and martyrs.
In the history of the Church, the saints and the martyrs have always drawn from the glorious Cross of Christ the strength to be faithful to God even to the point of offering their own lives. In faith they found the strength to overcome their weaknesses and to prevail over every adversity. Indeed, as the Apostle John says, "Who is it that conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?" (1 Jn 5:5). The victory born of faith is that of love. There have been, and still are, many Christians who are living witnesses of the power of faith that is expressed in charity. They have been peacemakers, promoters of justice and workers for a more humane world, a world in accordance with God's plan. With competence and professionalism, they have been committed in different sectors of the life of society, contributing effectively to the welfare of all. The charity that comes from faith led them to offer concrete witness by their actions and words. Christ is not a treasure meant for us alone; he is the most precious treasure we have, one that is meant to be shared with others. In our age of globalization, be witnesses of Christian hope all over the world. How many people long to receive this hope! Standing before the tomb of his friend Lazarus, who had died four days earlier, as he was about to call the dead man back to life, Jesus said to Lazarus' sister Martha: "If you believe, you will see the glory of God" (cf. Jn 11:40). In the same way, if you believe, and if you are able to live out your faith and bear witness to it every day, you will become a means of helping other young people like yourselves to find the meaning and joy of life, which is born of an encounter with Christ!
2. I would like to ask you to keep the Youth Coordination Group informed about any initiatives you take and to send information about your eventual participation in the 2011 WYD:
A. the diocese where you will be hosted before proceeding to Madrid
We are again attaching the map indicating the dioceses where you could meet young CA members of Spain. If you wish we could put you in contact.
B. The place you will be staying in when in Madrid
We are thinking of organizing a meeting for young CA members if we manage to include it among the many appointments before the days when we will be with the Holy Father. We will keep you informed about this.
We are giving you some general information about participation in the 2011 WYD, which we have received at the end of July, from the Pontifical Council for the Laity - Youth Section, addressed to International Movements, Associations and Communities.
3. The Patron Saints of the WYD have been named: Saint Isidor Labrador, Saint Maria of the Cabeza, Saint John of the Cross, Saint John of Ávila, Saint Theresa of Avila, Saint Rose from Lima, Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Saint Raphael Arnaiz and Saint Francis Saviour.
The list of patron saints is intended to cover the history of the Church in Spain, right from the first saints from Madrid - the couple Saint Isidor and Saint Maria - to the founders of the Discalsed Carmelites and the Company of Jesus - Saint Theresa and Saint Ignatius - going on to a great missionary of the East - Saint Francis Saviour - reaching the peak of mystic literature - Saint John of the Cross -, the promoter of the spirituality of diocesan priests- Saint John of Avila -, the first saint in Spanish America - Saint Rose from Lima - and a young person of our times - Saint Raphael Arnáiz -, canonized on the 11th October 2009 by Benedict XVI. We will get to know them better in the coming months.
4. You will be receiving the 5th stage of our itinerary to help you in your personal preparation and in that of your community, in CA groups and in your parishes, together with all young people towards the 2011 WYD. We suggest that you spread the idea of finding a moment of silence and prayer in your daily programme: a commitment which we will be undertaking with all CA young members all over the world.
Best wishes and prayers as we all move together in preparation for Madrid!
Chiara Finocchietti
